Gold recovery from electronics.
Well, I have been trashing a lot of old computers in my spare time and keeping anything that looked gold-plated in preperation for the warmer weather. I see that this scrap could be sold on Ebay (and I have several pounds of it now), but I'd like to extract the gold myself. I'm sure I'd enjoy learning how to do this more than I'd enjoy whatever pittance someone paid me for the scrap.
So, exactly how do I do this? I have tried before with a much smaller amount of scrap using the aqua-regia approach. I was able to dissolve the metals into an emerald-green solution, but not able to recover any gold (there may have been too little gold in the amount of scrap I had, however, to even be noticed.) Any first-hand information would be appreciated (Please, no links to other sites or ebay auctions). I'd like to take some pictures as I go along so that other members can give it a shot (if it works, of course.) |

Re: Gold recovery from electronics.
I talked to a guy who does this commercially. There are two ways to do it.
One is with acids (as you tried) The other is to burn it all to ash and recover PM from the ashes. Niether one is easy or desirable for small amounts of PM. The easiest would be to sell on ebay, then buy some PM in coin or bar form. Chris |
